How many genres have you listened to?

Music has been such an important pillar in my life. Often caught up in my own insular music world, it’s easy to be content with your current catalog. Your all time favorite artists may consistently put out work to audiences more accessible than at any time in history. But that list is shrinking.

When I get the chance to catch up with my music connoisseur friends, I always ask — what are you listening to? What should I be listening to? Tell me some new music, please!

It’s in these moments where the magic transfers.

Have you heard of x? You haven’t heard that song yet? Really? They are killer live as well. Just last week I learned about the Teskey Brothers from the same friend who turned me on to Coldplay before they became popular.

In search of that next sound, I’ll head to Apple Music, search, and download a few albums to listen to. 20 years ago, I’d head to Tower Records. Almost every time I’m blown away by what’s out there.

In your business, when was the last time you checked out a new solution unfamiliar to you? Have you been listening to jazz your whole life but never heard funk? Are you a rock n roller but never tried out some blues? There is a whole world out there full of melodies that just might be perfect for you.

Like music, the times have changed in business solutions.

New technologies are changing the way you operate your organization. What was once painful to execute is now automated with human direction.

There is a new divide created by those teams that lean into what this new world has to offer — and those who don’t.

The companies you were passionate about just a few years ago might very well be a one hit wonder. Are they continually rolling out innovation? Are the business results consistent as your organization grows? Or are they stuck in the past and keeping you there?

It’s almost 2020.

As the year comes to a close, consider listening to some new music. You might just enjoy some good old fashioned EDM.
